The W. C. Rives and Company was established in by William Rives in The Crown Colony of Virginia as a central office for various business holdings of his family including real estate, textiles, agriculture, trade, and finance.
1744
The W. C. Rives and Company becomes Rives & Co. and focuses solely on financial services. All other operations are made private and sold to members of The Rives Family.
1776
The United States declares it’s independent from Great Britain. Rives & Co. is 55 years old.
1801
Rives & Co. acquires a commercial loan firm in Georgia.
1821
Rives & Co. celebrates 100 years of business.
1838
Rives & Co. acquires an agricultural loan firm in Tennessee
1860
The US Civil War begins and two divisions owned by Rives & Co. temporarily cease business due to the war.
1866
Rives & Co. acquires 14 different loan and savings offices throughout Virginia, Georgia, Tennessee, and South Carolina.
1894
Rives & Co. expands operations to New York after acquiring two loan offices.
1908
Rives & Co. moves to Fort Worth, Texas.
1921
Rives & Co. celebrates 200 years of business.
1928
The Great Depression starts in the United States. Rives & Co. remained unaffected due to a diverse portfolio of financial institutions.
1931
Rives & Co. acquires its 38th loan firm
1949
Rives & Co. acquires its first tax preparation firm and restructures its divisions based on category of service instead of location.
1968
Rives & Co. acquires 16 bookkeeping firms which resulted in a fourth division being created under Rives & Co.
1983
Rives & Co. is offered $1.2 billion for the company and all its divisions. Rives & Co. declined.
2000
Rives & Co. acquires its first Forex firm and establishes a fifth division.
2007
Rives & Co. acquires its first merchant processing company and establishes a sixth division.
2009
Rives & Co. makes its 105th acquisition.
2021
Rives & Co. celebrates 300 years in business, making it the 16th oldest company in the United States.
2025
Despite purposefully staying out of the spot light Rives & Co. remains a major player in the financial services industry with over 200 individually named branches and 60 chain locations wholly owned and operated by Rives & Co. in Dallas, Texas.
