W. C. RIVES AND COMPANY INTRODUCED NEW PUBLIC RELATIONS GOAL
Dallas, Texas (October 1, 2026) — W. C. Rives and Company has announced a new goal to take deliberate steps toward becoming more publicly accessible and transparent concerning its history, operations, and continuing purpose.
For the last 126 years of its 305 year history, W. C. Rives and Company has maintained a distinctly private character. The firm’s affairs have traditionally been conducted with discretion, with an emphasis placed upon the quiet stewardship of its interests rather than public recognition. That tradition has served the Company well and remains an important part of its institutional character.
The decision to adopt a more public posture was made at the direction of a member of the Company’s Board, following the recognition that the standards by which institutions are judged have changed considerably in the modern era. Today, public confidence is increasingly founded upon openness, clarity, and a willingness to explain not only what an institution does, but also the principles by which it conducts its affairs.
“Privacy and discretion have been the standard since a family member caused quite the scandal in the last two decades of the 19th century,” the Company stated. “However, it appears that over time we confused discretion with obscurity. When I learned that someone close to me was familiar with our firm’s holdings but not W. C. Rives and Company as a whole I realized that it was time to make a change. In the modern era, an institution that wishes to be trusted must be prepared to be understood. We therefore believe it is appropriate to make more information about the Company available to the public while preserving the standards of prudence and confidentiality that have guided the firm throughout its history.”
The Company emphasized that this change does not represent a departure from its longstanding principles. Rather, it represents an evolution in how those principles are communicated. W. C. Rives and Company intends to provide greater public insight into its philosophy, activities, and approach to the stewardship of its capital and interests.
The Company further stated that increased public visibility will be undertaken carefully and deliberately. The objective is not publicity for its own sake, but rather a more complete and accurate understanding of an institution that has historically allowed its work to speak largely for itself.
After spending the last 126 years of its 305 year legacy in self isolation, W. C. Rives and Company regards this step as a natural responsibility of operating in the present era while remaining mindful of the traditions upon which the firm was established.
“We have no intention of abandoning the character that has defined this Company,” the statement continued. “Our purpose is to bring greater openness to that character. We believe that an institution may conduct its affairs with discretion while still meeting the modern expectation that those who place their confidence in it should have a reasonable understanding of who we are, what we do, and the principles that govern our conduct.”
W. C. Rives and Company expects its increased public presence to develop gradually in the months ahead by sponsoring community events throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex as well as permitting organizations that have received grants through its private foundation, The Rives Foundation, to acknowledge its support publicly.
